Hello Everybody,

This week went well I think. I was on my own, so I was boring and probably didn't make much sense on air, but I still think I did a good job. There wasn't really any news, just album updates really.

This week's playlist:
"Wanderlust" - Nightwish

Time night!

Hello Everyone,

This week, as promised, we brought you another themed show: time. We played songs about time, seasons, eternity, etc. All the most stereotypical and lame metal stuff regarding time was played and it was great. It was a lot of folk metal and power metal, and I have no problem with any of that.

We don't usually do news on theme nights, but something happened this week that we had to take a few minutes to talk about. Netta and Hannes left Turisas. Netta left to go to college and Hannes left to pursue a career writing and singing in operas. We would like to wish them both the best of luck. Replacing them is a keyboardist and the old bassist from Ensiferum (Ensiferum and Iron). I'm really excited to see what they can do with a keyboardist and it will be great to see the old bassist from Ensiferum.

This week's time playlist:
"Creel Mary's Blood" - Nightwish

Mythology Night

Hello Everyone!

Our show was cut short by a NCC football game this week, so we were only able to bring you 1.5 hours of metal. We had a theme night planned.....and we did it anyways. But we also decided to have another theme night next week because we couldn't this week.

The theme of this week's show (in case you didn't guess by the title of this post) was Mythology!! Myth is one of the greatest things to sing about, so it is a frequent theme of ours. We picked some of the classic Myth themed songs (yes...there's a lot of folk metal).

Another Great night - 8/28/11

Hey Everyone,

I know I always say this, and it must get boring, but this week was yet another regular show that went great. I didn't plan anything special for the playlist and there was no huge news, it was just an ordinary Metal Oxide. I threw in some Heljareyga, which I don't get to play as often as I would like, and I also played some newish Alestorm, which was great. I had a lot of fun tonight and I hope our listeners did too.

Like I said, news wasn't much. It was really just more discussion and reflection on the situation with Nevermore. There was another little story about some of Leave's Eyes' shirts being confiscated at Summer Breeze because they had Celtic crosses on them; they were given back after much hassle.

This week's playlist:
"The Phantom of the Opera" - Nightwish

We found this funny and interesting and took this opportunity to reflect on Nevermore and our expectation of the future. We also talked about how Rhapsody of Fire is kind of splitting up. There wasn't much news. One thing, though, was a story about Blind Guardian. They auctioned off Studio time record a new version of the Bard's Song to help Japan. A Quebec fan won the contest, paying somewhere around 13K euros. We will try to get this version for you guys sometime.

Hey all,

There was no theme this week. It was just me. There were no requests. I just put together a playlist and played it. It was great. I played some old black metal and some other stuff we don't play too often, and that was awesome. The regular stuff I played was great too. It was a great show, and I really enjoyed doing it.

Part of the reason it was good is probably because I was able to find some actually interesting pieces of news. ICS Vortex is releasing his solo album, "Storm Seeker" on August 22. I'm excited for what he calls "a tribute to the fall and rise of [his] kind." Also, Iced Earth's has a new album coming out, Dystopia. 7/9/11 - Melanie's Back!!

Hey Everyone,

Melanie is officially back! Because of this she picked the entire show and it was great. She did a great job and I really enjoyed the show this week; I hope everyone else did too! She picked some of her favorite songs and artists and tried to pick some songs by those artists that aren't played that often. But of course, there were the songs like "Sunlight Moonlight" that are almost always played whenever Melanie picks the playlist. It was a great show.

News was interesting also. Warrel Dane commented in an interview that Nevermore is not over, despite half the band leaving. We also reported  on the recent illness afflicting Slayer guitarist , Jeff Hanneman. He was bitten by a spider and contracted a skin-eating bacteria. It sounds like he was lucky and there wasn't a lot of damage. There was also an interesting story coming from Chicago's Millennium Park. Some LARPers left some gear by the Bean and it caused the police to be called; the entire park was evacuating because they thought it was a bomb. Just an interesting bit of news.

This week's playlist:
"Dark Chest of Wonders" - Nightwish
"Carry the Blessed Home" - Blind Guardian
"Genocide" - Hammerfall
"Resign to Surrender" - Epica
"Dusk and Her Embrace" - Cradle of Filth

This week's show went well. My friend stopped by, as well as my brother, so it was fun. I got a request for Immortal which I enjoyed and besides that I just played great metal. There was no theme so I just played whatever came to mind I loved it; I hope everyone else did too.

There was almost no news. Really only one story. Ex  Deo has released information about their new album, Caligula. It will be released sometime in early 2012. The band calls it the "best 'epic metal soundtrack' in recent times" thus setting the bar really high for themselves. I hope it's as good as they're making it sound!

6/25/11

Hey Everyone,

Nothing really happened this week. I only got a couple requests and there wasn't really any news. The playlist was good I think, though. I brought back the Mayhem with "Deathrcush" and Otyg with "Backahasten." Besides that It was more of the usual. I think it was a very good playlist, and despite being alone a very good show.

News was just Nightwish added top the lineup for 70000 Ton of Metal, and Mark from Epica talking about how his new project, Mayan, is similar to Epica. That is not surprising considering that everyone in Mayan is from Epic, After Forever, or  Delain. I'm excited to see how it turns out though.

This week's playlist:
"The End of All Hope" - Nightwish
"Tanelorn" - Blind Guardian
"War of the Universe" - Luca Turilli
"Dont Say a Word" - Sonata Arctica
"They Only Come out a Night" - Lordi

TJ's 21st Birthday Show!!

 Hello Everyone!!

I turned 21 this Saturday and decided to make this week's show full of drinking songs, party songs, and some of my favorites. Of course I played a lot of Korpiklaani, Finntroll, and other great Folk metal bands. Old Hosts Rita joined me and we had a great time. The show was awesome this week and I hope you all enjoyed it too.

There was some interesting news this week. Nightwish is looking to create a movie, a musical to be more specific. They will release a CD to go a long with the movie. Also, Tarja recently played a show in Russia in front of 200,000 people-which is ridiculous considering the mild turn-out of her shows in the US. There was also an interesting story about a drunk 18-year-old who damaged a home in Lake Tahoe because he thought Ozzy Osbourne was there. It was only a couple small things, but mush more interesting than the album updates of the past while.

This week's playlist:
"Over the Hills and Far Away" - Nightwish
"Birthday Dethday" - Dethklok
"Vodka" - Korpiklaani
"Brennivin" - Tyr
"The Hobbit" - Blind Guardian
"The Ancient Forest" - Luca Turilli
"Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" - Dimmu Borgir
"Pakanajuhla" - Moonsorrow
"The Heart Collector" - Nevermore
"Bring Us Pints of Beer" - Korpiklaani
"Yarilo" - Arkona
"Trollhammaren" - Finntroll
"Happy Little Boozer" - Korpiklaani
"One More Magic Potion" - Ensiferum
"Jaktens Tid" - Finntroll
"Heimwarts" - Equilibrium
"Beer Beer" - Korpiklaani
"Captain Morgan's Revenge" - Alestorm
"Green Dragon" - Battlelore
"One More" - Turisas
"Twilight Tavern" - Ensiferum
"The Wild Rover" - Tyr

I hope you enjoyed this playlist as much as I did,

June 4, 2011

Hey everyone,

There was no theme for tonight, but Melanie chose all the music since she's going to be gone for pretty much all of June. She did a great job, and the show went awesome. She picked some great songs, like "And Then There Was Silence", "Lord of Lies", "Paljon on Koskessa Kivia" and other classics.  There were a lot of long songs, so there weren't as many as usual, but that meant more metal and less talking. Either way, we enjoyed it and I think it was an awesome show.

News.....as usual there wasn't really any. Really, we just talked about 70,000 tons of Metal again, and listed new albums. Tyr released "The Lay of Thrym" Hammerfall released "Infected" Alestorm released "Back Through Time" and Amorphis released "The Beginning of Times".

Here's the playlist Melanie chose this week:
"Ghost Love Score" - Nightwish
"And then There Was Silence" - Blind Guardian

This week's show was good. It was just me, Melanie couldn't make it. I just put together a playlist like normal and I tried to put in some songs/artists that we don't play very often. Also, I got a few requests this week, and that's always awesome. Over all, I think it was a great show.

There were a couple bits of news. 70,000 Tons of Metal began announcing their 2012 line-up recently, and, so far, it includes Eluveitie, Moonsorrow, Amorphis and more. Tyr and Amorphis released new albums, "The Lay of Thrym" and "The Beginning of Times" respectively. Hammerfall has released their new album, "Infected", in Europe. May 1st show

Hey Everyone,

This week was boring compared to last week, but it was still as fun as ever. We had a couple requests, for Emperor and Tristania, and the rest was up to us. It was a good night for Metal Oxide.

As far as news went...it didn't really. We talked about Cory Taylor, of Slipknot, being the new vocalist for Velvet Revolver (I know, that's how desperate for news we were...) and a new interview with Heri from Tyr. Their new album is coming out on May 17th, so that;s good news.

Now, the playlist from this week's show:

Shield of Wings Interiew!

Hello Everyone,

Local band Shield of Wings joined us in the studio tonight, and it was awesome. We played two tracks off of their debut EP, Solarium, and had an interview about Solarium, the band, upcoming shows, and more! It was a great time.

We still found time for some news, however it was a little depressing. Jeff Loomis and Van Williams has left Nevermore. They will both be missed and remembered for their tremendous contributions to the band over the years. Also, on a similar note, Roy Khan has left Kamelot. He will also be missed, and we would like to wish him luck on his further ventures and also Kamelot in finding a replacement.

You can check out Shield of Wings by visiting them on Facebook, Myspace, Reverbnation, Cdbaby.com, Youtube, and iTunes. Also, for audio of the interview, visit webcast.wonc.org, go down to Metal Oxide at the bottom, and select 'Saturday 23 April 2011' The interview itself is about half way through, but they joined us on air throughout the show.

This week's playlist:
"The Siren" - Nightewish
"Solarium" - Shield of Wings
"Control the Divine" - Blind Guardian
"Wrath of the Norsemen" - Amon Amarth

Show from 4/17/11

Hello Everyone!

The show went very well this week. There was no theme, and even though there were no requests, I still enjoyed playing the music that was originally selected for the playlist. There was a perfect mix of Folk metal and the other genres. I played some bands that I'm not able to play as much I as I want to sometimes: Mayhem, Moonsorrow, Kamelot, etc. And over all, it was just a good playlist.

News was a little short this week. Nevermore has dropped out of the upcoming North American Tour that originally featured Symphony X, Soilwork, Blackguard, and Nevermore, but now only consists of Blackguard and Symphony X. Nevermore dropped out for as of yet undisclosed reasons. Leave's Eye's released the video for their new cover, "To France". And Children of Bodom will be touring in North America in the middle of the summer, and will be playing at the House of Blues on July 6. As always, these and more Metal news stories can be found at Blabbermouth.net.

This Week's Playlist:
"Bless This Child" - Nightwish
"The Ancient Forest of Elves" - Luca Turilli
"Carry the Blessed Home" - Blind Guardian
"Follow the Reaper" - Children of Bodom
"Nymphetamine" - Cradle of Filth

Battle Night!! 4/10/11

Hello Everyone!

Last week's unofficial theme night was so much fun that we realized how much we missed doing theme nights! (official ones) so we decided to do one for you this week. This week's theme is BATTLE. With a great mix of all the genres we play, we played such songs as "Into Battle" by Ensiferum, "Valkyries" by Blind Guardian, "Architecture of a Genocidal Nature" by Cradle of Filth, and much more. We chose this theme because there is a lot that can qualify for 'battle': there are songs about fighting itself, war in general, mythic conflicts, genocide, and so on. We are really happy with how it turned out and I hope you all enjoyed it.

News was kind of short this week, as usual. Amon Amarth playing at the Bottom Lounge on Thursday, April 14, Rhapsody of Fire's vocalist began touring with Kamelot, and it is going well, Septic Flesh's new album is coming out on April 19, and Swashbuckle got a new drummer. Of course, for more metal news, feel free to visit Blabbemouth.net.

4/2/11 - Unoffical Sing Along Night!

Hey Everyone!

I hope you enjoyed our sing along night! The reason it's unofficial is because it came about mostly by accident. I just happened to have picked songs that were very sing-alongable, and once it became official I only changed a little bit. I only really just switched songs by a band to a more fitting song by the same band. It was great.

There was a lot of news tonight. Sharon from Within Temptation just gave birth to a boy, Logan, and much more. The metal news we use from our show comes from Blabbermouth.net.

The playlist:
"Planet Hell" - Nightwish
"White Pearl Black Oceans..." - Sonata Arctica
"The Maiden and the Minstrel Knight" - Blind Guardian
"The Queen of the Damned" - Theatres des Vampires
"Sangreal" - Septic Flesh

March 27th Show

Hey Everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed the show this week, we had a blast doing it. Old host Rita stopped by, and we played a request for and got news from TJ #1, aka Noob. It was a good time. Like last week, there was a lot of folk metal, and that's always fun. We had a couple requests, and a couple shout-outs, like to Rita's mom and to friend of the show, Cate, who is still in the Marines and doing great. We also played the title track off of local metal band Shield of Wings' EP, Solarium. And, to top an already great show off, we closed with Amon Amarth covering System of a Down's "Aerials." It was a great show.

However, news wasn't that good, length wise. As far as the actual story goes, it was great. There is a baby suffering from extreme colic and had cried 24 hours a day for 14 weeks-except of course for when her parents play Satyricon for her. Rammstein didn't work, neither did other, less-heavy bands that they tried. It's pretty epic. For a video of the baby's woes being cured by Norwegian Black Metal, go here. And don't forget to visit Blabbermouth.net for all your metal news needs.

This week's playlist:
"Wanderlust" - Nightwish
"Go Forth and Die" - Dethklok
"Flag in the Ground" - Sonata Arctica
"Across the Rainbow Bridge" - Amon Amarth
"Sunlight Moonlight" - Septic Flesh

"Oy, Pechal-Toska" - Arkona
"Raised by the Sword" - Ensiferum
"Verbrannte Erde" - Equilibrium
"The Edge" - Tyr
"Aerials" - Amon Amarth

See you next week,

3/20/11 Show - MO Debut of local band, Shield of Wings

Hello Everyone!

I had a lot of fun with the show this week, for no special reason. There was no theme, but there was a lot of Folk Metal (it began 10-15 minutes before news) and that is always a good thing. There were a few requests, and some that I couldn't get to this week, but I'll make sure I play them next week.

As far as news this week, there really wasn't anything. The only I said on air was that details about Alestorm's upcoming album were released on Blabermouth.net. The album is called "Back Through Time" and it should be another great one we can add to Pirate metal.

Although there wasn't news this week, the beginning of the 1 o'clock hour was fun because I got to playasong from the local band, Shield of Wings! They are a great band from Bolingbrook, IL that sounds kind of like Nightwish or Epica. They're great and we are working on getting them on the show, so you can look forward to an interview with them sometime. Check them out on Facebook, Myspace, Reverbnation, Cdbaby.com, Youtube, and iTunes.

St. Patrick's Night!

Hello and happy St. Patrick's everyone!

Yes, I know it's not St. Patrick's day yet, but it is as far as Metal Oxide is concerned. Tonight I brought you the best of metal drinking songs. Of course, there was a lot of Korpiklaani, a few Alestorm, Tyr and Ensiferum, along with much more. There was only one request, which was for Primordial. I hope you enjoyed the playlist as much as I did!

There was almost no news in the metal world this week. Tyr will be releasing their new CD, The Lay of Thrym, on May 27 (yay!). But there was a sad comment from Cradle of Filth. They said that, due to the recession, it is becoming harder and harder for European bands to tour in the US, so there might be fewer of such bands touring in the future. This makes me very sad and I hope that it does not come true.

This weeks playlist of Irish and drinking songs:
"Wanderlust" - Nightwish
"Let's Drink" - Korpiklaani
"Wenches and Mead" - Alestorm
"The Wild Rover" - Tyr
"In the Court of Jarisleif" - Turisas
"One More Magic Potion" - Ensiferum
"Tequila" - Korpiklaani
"That Famous Ol' Spiced" - Alestorm
"Those Were the Days" - Turisas
"Olavur Riddaros" - Tyr
"Beer Beer" - Korpiklaani
"The Cruel Sea" - Primordial
"Vodka" - Korpiklaani
"Nancy the Tavern Wench" - Alestorm
"Champagne Bath" - Sonata Arctica
"The Very Wild Rover" - Cruachan
"Bring Us Pints of  Beer" - Korpiklaani
"Brennivin" - Tyr
"Det Iskalla Trollblodet" - Finntroll
"Twilight Tavern" - Ensiferum
"Happy Little Boozer" - Korpiklaani
"Green Dragon" - Battlelore
"Pakanajuhla" - Moonsorrow

Album Review: Turisas - Stand Up and Fight

Tuesday, March 9th has come and passed and that means that Turisas' new album, Stand Up and Fight, was released in North America!!

Stand up and Fight
"The March of the Varangian Guard"
"Take the Day!"
"Hunting Pirates"
"βένετοι! - πράσινοι!" (“Venetoi!-Prasinoi!”)
"Stand Up and Fight"
"The Great Escape"
"Fear the Fear"
"End of an Empire"
"The Bosphorus Freezes Over"
"Broadsword" (Jethro Tull cover, bonus track)
"Supernaut" (Black Sabbath cover, bonus track)

A couple of the songs were available before hand (fan videos, band releases, etc.) so I've been listening to some of the songs for a while now, and it's great to finally hear the rest of the album. I love this album; I think they did a great job in adding new elements while keeping the feel of battle metal that we have all come to know and love. The whole album has a very serious and meaningful. Some of the songs ("The March of the Varangian Guard" among them) seem to be a continuation of the theme of they previous full length album, The Varangian Way, but the album itself is not a concept album like the previous one. The songs that are not a continuation of The Varangian Way are songs about overcoming conflict and one's fears. I believe that the album itself is kind of an ending to the story that Turisas was telling with The Varangian Way because, although it is not a concept album, there are songs, I think, that are about the Varangian Guard, serving the Emperor, and returning home. Whether or not that is the case, it is a great album with many meaningful songs. Something I noticed, in addition to the great orchestrations, is Mathias' clean vocals. There seems to be a lot more of it in this album than in their previous two. This is something that I love to see (or hear, really) because although I love his growling voice, I love his clean singing even more. So that is another part I love about this album. Also, they made a lot of great use of orchestras and chorus' that really added to the epic feel of the whole thing.

"The March of the Varangian Guard" - An epic song about the glory of the Varangian Guard, telling about their worth above the other soldiers and mercenaries in the Byzantine Empire. It's a very epic sounding song with a lot of great orchestration.

"Take the Day!" - An uplifting, almost brutal song about....taking the day! This is mostly, I believe, about a battle in which the Varangian Guard were sent in when the Emperor's lesser troops failed. A very epic song.

"Hunting Pirates" - This is a great one; I believe this is about the Varangian Guard hunting for pirates, but this may be from the point of view of the pirates-but either way it's a great song, this album's "In the Court of Jarisleif"

"βένετοι! - πράσινοι!" - A grand, epic song that is about chariot racing in Miklagard (Constantinople) itself, and was a large part of life, and most likely something fascinating to Scandinavians. It's a grand, trumpetty, fast-paced song that really gives the feeling of watching a race in the Hypodrome of ancient Constantinople.

"Stand Up and Fight" - This title track is a great one, one of my personal favorites. This one is about victory when defeat seems imminent, over coming odds, and suppressing feelings of being defeated. To me, some of the lines are particularly strong: " But would I run today just to die another day" for example is a really powerful that always catches my ear. Like the name says, it's about just standing up and fighting, just getting it over with, which will help anyone inspire anyone in any kind of situation where they feel like giving up. This songs also has a very epic sound, incorporating very well elements of orchestration.

"The Great Escape" – This is a very brilliant song about leaving Constantinople against the Emperor's will to claim a throne in Scandinavia. They have to escape under the cover of night. The main character is so intent on heading home that he says “for no emperor nor chain will stand in my way.” This is a great song that uses orchestral elements very well, and there is a lot of great background singing (in response to things Mathias is singing) and chorus'.

"Fear the Fear" – This one isn't set in dark ages Europe, but rather a song for today's world. It basically says that although many of play games, in which we are the “hero of the day” if we go outside of that world, “our head's in the sand.” It's basically saying that just because we watch brave people on TV or play brave people in games, we are not (or a least it's singing to people who are). It's a very good song, with a lot of great clean vocals from Mathias.

"End of an Empire" – Another song with a lot of Mathias' great clean vocals; I love it. Also, it has awesome piano parts from Iiro Rantala. It has a very epic sound, with, again, awesome singing from Mathias. I believe this is just about empires ending in general, not one specific one. The song mentions Rome, Waterloo, Bastille, so it has a wide range. This is this albums “Miklagard Overture,” in my opinion.

"The Bosphorus Freezes Over" – This is the outro of the album, like “Katuman Kaiku” off of Battle Metal. A great, peaceful instrumental song, also with some chorus lines in Finnish. This is a meaningful ending to the song and the adventure begun with The Varangian Way.

“Broadsword”/“Supernaut” - Two great covers, Jethro Tull and Black Sabbath respectively, that will be making regular appearances at the ending of the show.

Turisas has definitely not disappointed with this album, not at all. This is a very epic, lively, and exciting album, that still has a lot of powerful, meaningful lyrics that a lot of people can relate to. History nerds like myself will enjoy mentions of “The Greens! The Blues!” in "βένετοι! - πράσινοι!”, which were real chariot racing factions (it' great), and battle metal fans can appreciate...all the songs. Turisas, once again, has done a great job and I cannot wait to see what they do in the future.

Review: Daniel Lioneye/Turisas/Nachtmystium/Cradle of Filth show, 2/20/11

Hello Everyone!

I first want to start off by apologizing for the tardiness of this post, college work got in it's way.

Anyways, the show was great, in every way. The line-up was Daniel Lioneye, Turisas, Nachtmystium, Cradle of Filth (in that order).

We missed the very beginning of Daniel Lioneye's set, but were there for most of it. They played a god show; the lead singer had a lot of energy and interacted with the crowd very well. Melanie loved seeing most of H.I.M. and wasn't at all disappointed when they didn't play the theme song for Viva la Bam. They just did a good job.

Turisas....well they didn't disappoint; in fact, they exceeded all of my expectations and played an amazing set. It was much shorter than I would have wanted (I wanted to see them headlining, but Cradle still played a great show) but it was still amazing. They only played one song, "Take the Day!", off of their new CD Stand Up and Fight. They played the classics like "To Holmgard and Beyond" (opener) and "Battle Metal" (closer); "In the Court of Jarisleif" (during which Mathias and Jussi were dancing and spinning around--it was great) and "One More" were also played. Mathias was very talkative with the crowd and promised to back in about a year. After their set, Ollie and Hannes were hanging out by their merch stand and Melanie and I were able to get pictures and talk to them a bit. I can't wait for them to come back!!

Nachtmystium also played a great set. I'm not sure what I was expecting from the "psychedelic" metal band, but they were really good. Also, the fact that they are from Wheaton, IL is awesome. They got a great reaction from the crowd and played a great set. Don't be surprised if you hear some of their stuff on the show sometime soon!

And Finally, Cradle of Filth, the headlining band. They played a great show too, and were a very good end to the evening. Dani was just as bouncy and energetic as always, and just a screechy. They played the great songs like "Nymphetamine" and "Under Huntress Moon", plus some of their older, classic stuff. They only played one song off of Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder and only one or two off of their new CD, Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa. And, of course, they ended with "From the Cradle to Enslave." Having suffered through a few line-up changes, they had two new members (compared to last time I saw them a couple years ago); Ashley 'Ellyllon' Jurgemeyer on keyboards/female vocals, and (Melanie absolute favorite member, back from obtaining his master's degree) James McIlroy on guitars. They both did a great job, and Melanie still can't get over how awesome he was.

Really, the only bad thing about the show was the 'scene-kiddy' crowd and an idiot who got WAY too into cradle who was trying to do some kind of moshy-headbangy-flaily-hitting-people-around-him thing near us.......yeah, he was an idiot. And, as always, there was the guy in the front against the railing who hated being pushed up against......always one of those.

All in all, it was a great show. All of the bands were great, we finally got see Turisas and chat with two of their members, and Melanie finally got to see her favorite member of Cradle of Filth. I'd go see any of these bands again!

2/27/11 Show!

Hello everyone!

I loved the show this week. There was no theme, and we just put together a playlist of what we wanted to hear, but we got a few requests. There were some requests from a couple weeks ago that I got to play this week, like Heljareyga and Luca Turilli, and I got one for Sonata Arctica as well. My brother stopped by for folk metal and shared his opinions and nonsense on-air with us, and that was fun. Overall, in fact, I think the whole show was great this week.

There wasn't really any news. Aside from Primordial's new CD anounced and Turisas' new CD being released pretty much everywhere but the US, there wasn't much. Although we did add a brief discussion about last week's Turisas and Cradle of Filth show. That was great and you can look forward to a review of the show in another post which will hopefully be written shortly. Also, upon Stand Up and Fight's North America release, I will post a review of the CD.

Finnish Night! 2/20

Hello Everyone!

In honor of Ensiferum and Finntroll headlining "Finnish Metal Fest part II" this week, we decided to make this week a Finnish metal themed show. We played only Finnish bands, and mostly folk metal ones, even though many Finnish bands excel in other genres as well. So there were multiple songs from many bands, like Ensiferum, Finntroll, Turisas, and so on. I really enjoyed it, and I hope you did to.

There really wasn't any news this week. The only thing, besides concerts and such, is that Nevermore's bassist, Jim Sheppard, recently underwent brain surgery to remove a benign tumor and is now recovering. We wish him a speedy recovery, so he is all ready for their upcoming tour this May.

The Finnish playllist this week:

February 13th show

Hello all,

I hope you enjoyed the show this week, because we enjoyed playing it for you. Nothing special and not too many requests. We got an awesome request for Blind Guardian's "The Bard's Song - In the Forest" and someone called the station before we even went on to request "Cry of the Blackbird" by Amon Amarth; now that's taking initiative. We had a couple requests for next week too, which we will do our best to fulfill.

The only news really was just tour and album updates. We discussed upcoming tours for the Chicago Land area. Some of the notable ones are Ensiferum and Finntroll, playing on the 19th at Reggie's Rock Club, Turisas opening for Cradle of Filth at the House of Blues on Sunday, the 20th, and Amon Amarth playing a double set on April 14th at the Bottom Lounge. Hello everyone!

The show was great this week. Everything went really well, from the music to the news; the whole thing was great. I got to choose the playlist, and there were only two requests. I would have liked to see more requests, but any is good. Also, since Korpiklaani's new album, Ukon Wacka, we played the title track and closed with the Motorhead, "Iron Fist", which is the bonus track from the CD.

There wasn't too much news this week. One of the things that stands out is that Nergal, of Behemoth, is back in the hospital. He has an infection from his transplant, but it seems treatable, so he will hopefully make speedy recovery. For more news and more detailed stories, visit Blabbermouth.net.

January 30th show

Hello everyone,

I loved the show tonight, it was great. Even though there was nothing special and there were no requests, I still loved playing the playlist I came up with earlier tonight. Melanie had a great request to hear "And Then There Was Silence" by Blind Guardian, which was great and epic. I also managed to throw in Moonsorrow's "Kylan Paassa", who we don't get to play too often. Perhaps one of my favorite parts though, is we played one of the new songs off of Turisas's upcoming album, Stand Up and Fight. The song was "The March of the Varangian Guard", which we played for you before but it was only a fan-shot live video; this one is the studio version.

News was very lacking tonight, but we filled the time with talk about upcoming concerts and albums. For more information about upcoming releases and tours, check out Blabbermouth.net.

This week's playlist:
"Nemo" - Nightwish

January 23rd Show

Hey Everyone!

The show was really awesome this week. Although there wasn't a theme or anything special, I just think the playlist went really well. We only had one request, for "What Have You Done" by Within Temptation, which was great. Besides that, we just went off of the playlist that I thought up earlier.

For News, there wasn't much. Amon Amarth's new album "Surtur Rising" has been announced and the cover revealed; the cover art  is epic, by the way. And there was a very good piece of news tonight: Nergal, lead singer of Behemoth, was recently released from the hospital after a 6 month battle with leukemia. We are very thankful that he made it through ok.

The Playlist:

January 16th Show

Hello Everyone,

This weeks show was nothing special, but it was still a lot of fun as always. I only had a couple requests, like "To Mega Therion" by Therion, and "Asator" by Amon Amarth; but as you can see, they're both great requests. Besides those, I played just the normal stuff, while bringing back some old Burzum and Darkthrone, which I think added a good touch to the mix.

As for news, there wasn't really anything. Just album names and some release dates for Leave's Eyes ("Merebond" - April 22), Korpiklaani ("Ukon Wacka" - April 4) and Turisas ("Stand Up and Fight" - March 8).

Earlier today, I got a chance to see local band Act of Destruction record some things for their new album. It was just bass tracks today, but they were recorded masterfully. They have almost everything but the vocals done so far, so it won't  be too long before we have an idea of  when the CD will come out. I also got a chance to hear some of the more completed songs and they sound great. I can't wait to hear what the finished project sounds like!

The playlist:
"The Kinslayer" - Nightwish
"Shamandalie" - Sonata Arctica
"Into the Storm" - Blind Guardian
"Murmaider" - Dethklok
"A Blaze in the Northern Sky" - Darkthrone
"Ea, Lord of the Depths" - Burzum
"Vredesbyrd" - Dimmu Borgir
"Twilight Symphony" - King Diamond
"Hard Rock Hallelujah" - Lordi
"Emptiness Unobstructed" - Nevermore
"The Mega Therion" - Therion
"Asator" - Amon Amarth
"Blood and Death" - Act of Destruction
"Northern Lights" - Amorphis
"Isku Pitkaastaa Ilosta" - Korpiklaani
"Over the Seas" - Alestorm
"Shattering Swords" - Suidakra
"Yarilo" - Arkona
"Dragonheads" - Ensiferum
"Touch of Green and Gold" - Battlelore
"Seawitch and the Sorcerer" - Kivimetsan Druidi
"Uis Elveti" - Eluveitie
"Lord of Lies" - Tyr
"Rebel Yell" - Children of Bodom

See you next week,
